Sights of Salzburg Tours

Firstly, I offer either a private van-walking or E-bike tour of Salzburg, Austria. We visit all the Sound of Music film sites in the old town city center, as well as in the surrounding green areas within Salzburg, including seeing the most beautiful 400-year-old palaces and incredible views of the high mountains around Salzburg, all while discussing the film trivia and history of those locations. My Sound of Music tour is the only tour in Salzburg to visit the original Von Trapp Family home, where they lived from 1923 to 1938. 

We go to more of the film locations than any other tour in Salzburg by far, including: the Nonnberg Abbey; the "I am 16" gazebo, Italian Baroque gardens & trick fountains at the Hellbrunn Palace (all the other Sound of Music tours only see the gazebo and don't walk through the stunning gardens and ponds to see the palace and fountains); the lake and garden where the terrace scenes (when drinking pink lemonade) were filmed at Leopoldskron Palace; the Mirabell Gardens and all the DoReMi film locations therein, plus the Von Trapp Family home in the film, to name just a few. One unique special perk of the van-walking tour compared to my E-bike tour of Salzburg is that we can drive up to the beautiful opening-scene hilltop meadow area in the van, where Julie Andrews twirled around singing 'The Hills are Alive', which is located about a 20-minute drive up in the foothills outside of Salzburg. There is plenty of time once there to make your own twirling video as well! 

My Sound of Music - Von Trapp Family private van-walking tour costs 600 Euro per group for up to 4 people (the van can hold up to 4 guests). For private groups on my Salzburg Sound of Music film location E-bike tour, the cost is also 600 euro for any group size up to 4 people. For larger groups over 4 guests on E-bikes, each additional person costs 150 Euro. You can set your size limit since it is your own tour!

My Sound of Music - Von Trapp Family non-private E-Bike tour of Salzburg is the same tour as the private one listed just above, but simply with mixed groups who haven't met each other yet before the tour. It costs 150 Euro per person. Ages approx. 13 and up are welcome. The minimum total group size is 2 guests, and the maximum total group size is 8. If the total group size is under 4 people when the tour begins, each person must pay an additional 50 euro on the day of the tour.

I also offer an all-season/all-day (8 hours on average) private van-walking tour for up to 4 guests to Hitler's Eagle's Nest tea house and the surrounding area of Obersalzberg, which is only a gorgeous 35 minutes' drive from Salzburg, customized to your wishes. This also includes visiting the actual Nazi escape bunker & tunnel system at the newly renovated Eagle's Nest Nazi documentation center museum and other Nazi/SS noteworthy areas nearby, including Hitler's Berghof mountain retreat house site (where he spent a third of the war plotting his evil deeds and which was the 2nd seat of power for the Third Reich after Berlin, which was destroyed at the end of the war by the British RAF). 

For Sound of Music fans, we also visit the Sound of Music film sites in the mountains in that same area, including the opening scene hilltop (where Julie twirls around and sings) and final scene hilltop (where the Von Trapp family hike up over the mountains to escape the Nazis in the film).  We also visit the gorgeous Königssee (King Lake) in nearby Berchtesgaden, Germany and even can ride an electric wooden boat across the lake to the 900-year-old Baroque Pilgrimage Church of St. Bartholomew. Next to that church is a former royal hunting retreat lodge now turned into a restaurant, where we can enjoy some food & drink on the garden terrace overlooking the lake and high mountain views. This gorgeous lake surrounded by steep cliffs was featured at the beginning of the Sound of Music! 

This private tour is reasonably priced at 600 euro. This price does not include the fee for the mandatory Eagle's Nest shuttle bus (33 euro per person/round trip) from the Eagle's Nest parking lot, Eagle's Nest museum/documentation center fee (4.50 euro per person), the Königssee electric boat ride if you wish to go across the lake and back, or for the state park entry (9.50 euro for the whole van) to drive up a breathtaking panoramic road to the final meadow scene hilltop. It is a historically fascinating area to see! 

I further offer an all-season/all-day (8 hours on average) private van-walking tour for up to 4 guests to the gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage village of Hallstatt on Lake Hallstatt, as well as to the surrounding lakes and mountain region, including seeing the St. Michael's Basilica in Mondsee (built in the 1400's), where the wedding scene was filmed in the Sound of Music. It is also possible to visit the spectacular picnic-scene meadow in Werfen where Julie Andrews plays the guitar and teaches the children how to sing in the Sound of Music. Like all my tours, this tour can be customized to your individual wishes. 

We will also visit the lovely villages of St. Gilgen or St. Wolfgang on the magnificent Lake Wolfgang.  We can also take the 35-minute steep train ride up to the top of the Schafberg (Sheep's mountain) from St. Wolfgang, as was shown in the Sound of Music during the journey up to the 'picnic meadow' hillside (but now in a much more modern and electric train than as shown in the film). From there you can see at least 5 huge lakes in the hills and valleys below! (This train ride is a separate cost which you would pay directly to the steep train ticket office). We also will go to the spectacular Lake Gosau, nestled in the high mountain peak region. This private tour costs 600 euro, which does not include any extra gondola or funicular fees, in case you wish to get even further up in the mountains to see even more spectacular lookout views over the lakes and mountain tops, as well as also not including any parking fees along the way. We can even take a swim in any of the lakes during the warmer months in June, July or August.
